Jason CampbellBusiness coach & mentor
You have to start somewhere!
I set up my first business at the age of 17; buying reject pizzas from a local factory and selling them to students at my college. Not groundbreaking by any means, but it taught me a huge amount about business, and funded a modest expansion in the form of a chest freezer, delivery bike and eventually a van.
Competing with Filofax
At 19, I designed and manufactured a range of products to compete with the global brand ‘Filofax’ (for those who remember them). My first order, from WH-Smith, was manufactured in a rented bedroom in Tring, Hertfordshire, and the business quickly grew to sell through many major UK and European retailers, including Liberty and Selfridges.
After graduating as a furniture designer I worked as a freelancer in both the agency and retail sectors. I went on to run design teams and look after key client accounts but quickly found myself winning large amounts of new business by simply building strong client relationships. Moving away from hands-on design and account management I took on more sales, commercial and MD roles and within a few years had successfully turned two small teams of London designers into healthy medium sized agencies. Using this experience I then became part of a team (as the MD) to grow a 20 headcount agency in London to over 400 people with offices all over the world.
Although a great experience I realised that my passion was in small to medium-sized agencies and so I took on a two-person design team that was struggling to win work and be profitable and turned it into an awesome team of 25+ people, delivering brilliant work and turning over several million pounds.
Not all plain sailing
It's easy to reference the successes but if I'm honest the journey has been far from easy. I've been through the highs and lows that you have probably experienced, had more than my fair share of sleepless nights and learned big lessons by making mistakes. That said, every one of these experiences means I now have a broad and in-depth understanding of what really makes an individual and company successful.
Mentoring and Coaching
I'm now a full-time independent business coach and mentor working predominantly with the owners of small to medium-sized agencies. Some are looking for increased sales and profit, whilst others need help to overcome challenges that are preventing business growth. Whether it’s two sessions or an ongoing programme, my work is always 100% tailored to each client's specific requirements.
I'm an accredited ILM & WABC business and performance coach who also works with a variety of business outside of the agency and creative world. I assist in training and assessing other business coaches at the London Business Coaching Academy and outside of the UK deliver sales and prospecting training in the automotive industry.
The majority of my experience has been starting, running and growing agencies with small to medium sized clients. However, I have sold to, won and serviced, as an agency, some of the worlds largest brands. I hope these names demonstrate the experience, variety and depth of the work I can deliver.
